Does powerbank + LiPo battery work together? (to get measurements too?)

I’ll have my unit outdoors for a long time. I was going to only add a waterproof solar battery pack plugged into the USB, wake up every ~15 mins, transmit, and sleep deeply -> repeat.

I’d like to get the battery power amps/percent transmitted too. However, I see that the API only respects the battery rather than the USB connection.

Should I connect the LI battery, and put the battery pack on the USB, and tell it to charge from there? Or, just connect a solar panel to USB, since there’s already a battery to charge through the USB? OR, is there a way to get those readings from the USB only (from the battery pack)?
