Serial connection to Nova USB via an FT232R

Hi Folks,
We’ve just received our first nova u201, we’re hoping to integrate it in to a product we have.
We need to communicate with the nova using serial uart. I notice that there are a few posts here where users have got this working by soldering directly on to the novas exposed uart pads. We would prefer not to do this but would prefer to have a usb slot on our board to connect to the nova.
The solution we’re considering is converting the uart serial in our device to usb using an ft232r ftdi chip and then connecting the nova to this using a usb slot connector. I can’t think of any reason why this would not work, but we not used the ft232r before so maybe I’m missing something.
Just wondering if anyone has tried this or has any suggestions?
Thanks,
Brian
